IGF 2022 High-Level Track

Franz von Weizsäcker is heading the digital and economic portfolio of GIZ Office to the African Union, based in Addis Ababa. This includes the Data Governance in Africa Initiative, a multi-donor action funded by EU and five European member states, in support of implementing the African Union Data Governance Framework at continental, regional and national level. In his previous roles, Franz has been running the GIZ's innovation lab based in Berlin, sourcing tech startup innovations for sustainable development worldwide. With a focus on digital economic policies and public sector innovation, Franz has been in various positions in GIZ advising governments in the Middle East, Latin America, Germany and EU. Before joining GIZ, Franz worked as a business consultant in the field of telecommunications and IT security. His background is computer science with majors in economics and international development from Berlin University of Technology.
